Induction 2022
Updated 870 Days AgoPublic

This should take no less than 30 minutes to do, normally 40-45 but no more than 1 hour, it depends on the number of Applicants, you should also aim to have a minimum of 2 applicants per induction. Avoid doing them on their own, and try to do them when there are known intake dates so you can get them straight on them

Ping template for applicant chat - replace the time numbers by entering a time and date here https://www.unixtimestamp.com/

@Applicants thank you for your applications. There will be an induction today <t:1638900000:R> (<t:1638900000:F>). This is where you can progress your application further and during it we'll give you information on the next steps. It takes up to 45 minutes over voice, and you need to reply to this message to confirm that you will attend.

Induction order of contents
Welcome, induction is to orient you to UNITAF and explain 3 key things

  • a bit about us
  • how to get involved with our combat operations
  • how our progression works and next steps
  • It will take up to 45 minutes, UNITAF has a lot of automation and what I'm going to show you are things that will help to orient you to our way of doing things and make you aware of things you'll need to know once you join

I will also answer any questions you have

The induction is informal, so feel free to ask me if you have any questions at any point.

About UNITAF

  • Active Company Sized MILSIM Unit
  • Quite a large and active group in comparison to the wider community
    • 130~ on the active force, each of these persons deploying min 1x per month, but an average of 8x
    • we average around 30 deployments per month, a mix of practices and operations, more on that later
    • average age 27, min age 18
    • diverse group, 30% NA/CAD, 30% UK, another 40% EU and rest of world (32 countries in total)
[SCROLL TO BOTTOM OF HOMEPAGE / REALISM WHERE IT MATTERS SECTION]

there are lots of different terms used in the wider community, semi-milsim, realism, chillsim, relaxed milsim etc

  • UNITAF is on serious end - we do things the way they are done in real life, if it makes sense to do it that way
    • in game, forced 1st person, medical system, radio system, advanced ballistics etc

So that is a bit about us, are there any questions so far?
(if any questions will be answered in the following sections, then just say that, don't answer them)

[OPEN THE MAIN MENU]

Operations and how to join them
Let's look at Combat Operations and how to get involved in them, we assume that's why you are joining.

Two things that make UNITAF pretty unique, which are that we are;

  • non fixed schedule
  • non fixed ORBAT

Let's explain what that means;

Non fixed schedule: Typically in a unit such as ours, you'll commit to a mandatory attendance schedule, for example Thursdays and Sundays and usually deploy in the same team in the same role - we call these "Opt-out groups" since it's assumed you will always attend, and if you can't you have to make an excuse not to do so.

UNITAF is an opt-in group, it's what we call our Dynamic ORBAT system, we never assume that you will attend - you sign up for operations 'opt-in' when you can attend, choosing your unit/team and role. We only have a problem if you sign up and don't turn up, which is called a no-show.

We have quite complex systems that manage this process and in a moment, I'll show you how that all works.

Non fixed ORBAT means that of 600 deployments we've run in the last 2.5 years, not one has had the same people, in the same role, in the same team. This might seem odd, but UNITAF has a very high level of cohesion as everyone is trained the same way. This system gives ultimate flexibility and choice complimenting our busy lifestyles.

[OPEN OPERATIONS CENTER - AND HOPE YOU HAVE OPS YOU CAN SLOT ON TO DEMO WITH]
  • Explain that there are two types of deploy, ops and practices - explain difference
  • Explain why they say Operation XXX i.e. there are campaigns with arching stories
  • Explain times are UTC but converted to local
  • Explain weather and time of day attributes, if you don't like fog or night ops, don't turn up and complain about it
  • Explain slot count (our ops range from 18 to 80, we don't deploy everyone all the time, allowing a range of experiences)
  • Explain op type
    • Peacekeeping, lowest end - high roleplay low contact
    • COIN /. Counter Insurgency - medium roleplay medium contact - in the middle
    • Conventional - high contact low roleplay
  • Explain the deployment button, and that the further the op is away the counter appears, generally we 'slot' 4 days before 'execution'
  • Ask if everyone has used mod presets before
[CLICK ON MOD PRESET TO DOWNLOAD ONE]
  • Show them the file, and demo it's use if people don't know
  • Head to account settings, explain
    • mod optionals
    • DLC ownership
    • other game pings
    • own AAR history
[BACK TO OPS CENTER]

Now let's look at that 'opt-in' process, once you've found a deployment you want to sign up to click on the deploy button

[FIND A DEPLOYMENT THAT HAS FREE SLOTS AND IS RELEASED IF POSSIBLE, AND OPEN THE ORBAT SCREEN]
  • This is an ORBAT, stands for order of battle, it's the formation a military unit goes into battle
  • ORBATs are task oriented, if we don't need tanks, we don't take them (better than fixed ORBAT for example)
  • Imagine this a bit like the lobby on the public server, where you choose your slot, same concept - but 4 days before you actually deploy
  • Explain
    • Units and their callsigns and radio frequencies
    • Buddy team colours
    • Role names, if you don't know what one is, click the role to open the roles center (demo it)
    • Gear icon for loadouts if you want to test them
  • The ORBAT is linked to the game, our servers have no lobby, if you are not on the ORBAT you cannot attend
  • If you are on the ORBAT the game will automatically fetch your role, start position, radio frequencies and loadout for you
  • We do have arsenals but they are restricted, the only way to get special equipment is through the ORBAT itself
  • The ORBAT has restrictions, you can't access any role, I'll explain this in detail shortly.
[OPEN THE SEARCH AND SEARCH FOR OPERATION EMBER, OPEN EMBER DAY 9 - I FIND THIS A GOOD EXAMPLE]
[OPEN OPORD TAB]
  • go to OPORD, explain it in SMEAC (Situation, Mission, Execution, Admin, Command/Signal) and that it helps you understand the small cog part you play in the bigger machine
[OPEN MAP TAB]

should load the AAR replay tool, wait for it to load and skip about an hour in
zoom in and explain the callsigns, as they move about, explain the cohesion, see how the squads and fireteams move together
we are a team based group, and there is no lone wolfing tolerated

[OPEN AAR TAB]

If you have a notification say "you see I have one" one thing you get notifications for is AARs

  • explain AAR
  • can't deploy if you have an open one
  • explain that they are looking at the average of a whole platoon etc
  • you can leave comments, vote for MVP, rep rate the people you deploy with etc
[RETURN TO OPS CENTER]

so hopefully, that's explained how you sign up for deployments, I'll touch on progression and the ORBAT restrictions next but are there any questions at this stage?

[GO TO ROLES CENTER]
  • UNITAF is infantry-first, meaning 70-80% of the entire slot supply is infantry slots
  • if you do not like infantry, you simply won't be a good fit for UNITAF
  • that said there are around 80 combat roles in UNITAF, but they all fall into these 10 areas
  • an ideal candidate has a few, i.e 3 interests in terms of combat area
  • we have ranks, but the rank doesn't tell you how good of a medic vs leader you are in our system where you can move around
  • hence we have tiers, tiers are like ranks within the combat areas, everyone holds a rank and then a tier in all 10 areas
[CLICK INTO AN AREA - I.E.. MEDICAL ]
  • here you can see roles in this area, from most junior (T-I) to most senior (T-II) and each role explained
  • you need the listed tier to access the role
  • Tier 0 means anyone can access it, i.e. entry level
[GO TO YOUR OWN DOSSIER VIA THE USER MENU ]
  • explain dossier, everyone has a record
  • flick through the deployment record, mention it briefly
  • go to practice record, talk about how it shows the same 10 areas, but shows your progress in them
  • go into an example, and then explain how you can slot for the tiers you have, and that if someone doesn't fill a position it's offered to the people 1 tier below etc
  • mention briefly fatigue, but not in too much detail
  • tiers are an experienced based system, we're tracking all this data through our mod automatically, you just need to turn up
[GO TO SOP AREA ]
  • explain we have 150+ SOPs that cover everything we do
  • go into an area and show an example
  • sop is in written and also in audio format
  • show code of conduct (linked on main menu)
    • main point to mention is the culture, zero-discussion topics section
    • i.e.. we're here to simulate the military, we are not a debate society
[GO TO ACTIVE PERSONNEL CHART]
  • this is UNITAF today
  • UNITAF has a decentralised command, imagine as a big group split into smaller groups with their own administrators
  • these are your points of contact for anything you need, if you break policy or do something really good
  • they can also help you when you have a goal i.e. Platoon Leader
  • if you are active you'll appear on the active force chart
[GO TO RANKS AREA ]

finally, 3-phase application process, it's quite involved

  • this has been step 2, the first being your application
  • after this induction, you'll become a candidate
  • the final stage is called Intake, you have 30 days from today to attend one
  • after successfully completing an intake, you'll become a member, and get your discord and website access, after your intake
    • intake is an in-game orientation to our core infantry procedures.
  • You then become a recruit, which is a probationary period where you get to know us and we get to know you.
  • explain how they can arrange and get information about the intake from candidate chat
  • they will get a DM from the bot after becoming a candidate with more info
[RETURN TO HOMEPAGE ]

take questions
if there is a intake in the schedule, try to get them on it - or give rough indication of when it will be
i.e. try to get them thinking about next steps
