Do you have a list of rules?

Yes, UNITAF members are all adults and we expect every member to use common sense and follow the code of conduct.
Please see our General unit polices and rules for more information.

What are the activity requirements?

You can attend as many or as little operations as you like, the minimum is 1 deployment per month, there is no maximum. With our unique approach you won't be penalised for not coming to an operation you did not opt into. It's a totally flexible system that allows you to slot when you are free. However your activity status will be managed by your COC and will fall into the following;

  • Regular (Deployed last 30 days)
  • Reserve (Deployed 30-60 days)
  • Inactive (Deployed 60+ days)

As UNITAF is an opt-in, session based group, if you opt-in and do not attend, you will be given a no-show mark against your dossier for each offence. Racking up too many no-shows takes positions away from other players, and we will take action against this type of violation. We appreciate it if you click “Can’t attend” if you know that you cannot.

How can I progress in this unit?

In respect of rank, progression can come in a few ways

For all in-game roles, leadership, pilots, marksman and beyond
Progression through UNITAFs tier system as explained in the next question below, is the primary driver in your rank. A combination of operation and practice hours will set you on the path through Private First Class, Specialist and Master Specialist. UNITAF rewards players who dedicate time to specific training and practice areas, more information can be found in the How does the training system work? section below.

For aspiring mission makers and game masters
Gaining some experience under our more seasoned game-masters and developers. Then why not try your hand at authoring a campaign storyline and submitting it for scheduling - or perhaps developing some one-off special operations?

For leaders and those interested in administration
Progression through the non-commissioned ranks and chain of command to join the ranks of those who keep the unit ticking. Selection for NCOs and Corporals is a competitive process as there are a limited number of positions, based on the active size of the unit. The best advice is to let your IC/NCO know as early as possible your ambitions and to show up to operations and practices. This ensures that when selection comes around, your more likely to be on that list.

How does the training system work?

How do I request a training?

There are two ways of doing this.

  1. Contact your COC, they can push the request and get a training organised.
  2. Head over to our Discord Server and simply request it in #j6-training-and-sop
How do I get promoted?

Promotions from all ranks follow a similar procedure, there are a number of 'minimum requirements' - once these are met, the 1IC of the person due for promotion has the option to recommend them for promotion, which is then reviewed by the commanding officer and if approved deferred to the next official operation briefing. You can find out more about how ranks are used in UNITAF as well as requirements for all ranks on the website.

Do I have to attend practices, I have XXXX hours in Arma/I'm an ex-special forces Operator?

Practices in UNITAF are not mandatory, with the exception of the Recruit training. However access to most other roles require further practice. You will also find that you will be given more opportunity to progress when you attend practices.

UNITAFs training program focuses predominantly on team-based skills and tactics and is designed to ensure every person can work together effectively. While your time in-game or real-world experience can be a good indicator of competence. It can sometimes also make you a more difficult candidate than someone with no experience, as you may have to 'unlearn' phrases, terminology or tactics of which may be different in SOP to what you have done previously.

How can I become a Pilot/Sniper/Special Operator?

All roles beyond Tier 1 require a mix of operational experience and SOP practice in that specific area; more information can be found in the How does the training system work? section above.

How do I setup Radios?

We cover this all in a Basic Infantry (Recruit) FTX. If you haven't attended one please get on the next available Recruit FTX. You can find them here - browse practice operations. If you cannot see a basic FTX, see How do I request a training?

NOTE: The below video covers how the setup radios in TFAR

How do I find the server?
  • By joining the UNITAF unit on Arma 3 Units you can access our servers through the 'Units' tab of the Arma 3 game Launcher.
  • By using the internet tab, search for 'UNITAF' or 'UTFN'
  • If you've played on our servers recently you can try the 'Recents' tab
  • If all else fails, direct connect to ops.unitedtaskforce.net using the port advertised for the session
What is the server IP/Port/Password?

All UNITAF servers use the IP address of: ops.unitedtaskforce.net, the port and password is dependant upon the specific server or session and will be posted in the appropriate server launch ping, such as #mission-pings - usually 30 minutes before the advertised start time.

What is a 1UP and how do I request one?

A 1UP is a method to bypass the training or tiering requirements for an ORBAT role. If you can't deploy to a slot because you don't have the requirements if you wait 24 hours from when the ORBAT is released and then ask the Field Leader (FL) as listed on the ORBAT if you can be 1UP'd into the position, the FL may be able to slot you at their discretion. 1UP'd slots on an ORBAT are marked 1UP in Gold, so other users know who has been 1UP'd.

How do I get on the next mission?

Head over to the website, sign in and then click the big green button that says "Join Next Deployment". Or simply follow this link to the Operations Center to browse upcoming operations.

Why am I going deaf/why are my ears ringing?
IMPORTANT: Earplugs... Always remember your earplugs. Note that some calibre rounds will still pierce through earplug protection.
Why can't I bandage myself/others?

To perform any medical actions you need to sling your weapon on-back, the default key for this is '0'

I have an idea for a campaign, can I run it?

Hell yeah - we'd love to hear it, there are dedicated channels on Discord for campaign ideas. You should also reach out through the chain of command to speak to regular field leaders. If you have any more questions please head to the Discord and ask in #j4-campaign-ideas.

I have a problem with someone, who should I talk to about it?

UNITAF has robust procedures in place, if you have any issue report it to your chain of command / 1IC / reports to and they will advance it as required.

Why do we use Coordinated Universal Time?

We have to cater for many different time zones. UTC is the best fit for this job. However the website will display any operation in your local time as long as you are logged in and importantly, not using a VPN from a third location. We even have the UTC clock at the top right of the website if you need to be sure.
